The 2nd Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) Meeting

On the morning of March 6, 2025, the Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) meeting for the SATREPS Project “Establishing Sustainable Drinking Water Supply System Resilient to the Contamination of Drinking Water Sources” was held at Hanoi University of Civil Engineering. The project is jointly implemented by Hanoi University of Civil Engineering and Nagasaki University over a five-year period (2023–2028), with support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).

Overview of the Meeting Hall

Attending the meeting from the Japanese side were Mr. Nakashima – Representative of the JICA Headquarters; Mr. Takanobu Shinoda – Deputy Chief Representative of the JICA Vietnam Office; Prof. Takahiro Fujioka of Nagasaki University, the Japanese Project Leader, together with experts and project members. From the Vietnamese side, participants included Prof. Nguyen Hoang Giang – Vice President and Project Director of Hanoi University of Civil Engineering; Mr. Tran Viet Cuong – Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hai Phong Water Supply Joint Stock Company; Prof. Tran Thi Viet Nga – Vietnamese Project Leader; Dr. Nguyen Tien Dung – Head of the International Cooperation Department, along with experts and project members.

In his remarks at the meeting, Prof. Nguyen Hoang Giang, Vice President of Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, expressed his sincere appreciation for the support and cooperation from the JST and the JICA, which contributed to the approval and implementation of the project. He also extended his gratitude to Hai Phong Water Supply Joint Stock Company and Thuy Loi University for their close collaboration in implementing the project. Appreciating the valuable contributions of the project members, Prof. Nguyen Hoang Giang requested the project team to present reports on the project activities, clearly highlighting the challenges, advantages, achievements, and remaining issues that need to be addressed and resolved. Based on these discussions, the project's activity plans and orientations for the following years will be adjusted in accordance with actual conditions to ensure the achievement of the project objectives.

On behalf of the Japanese delegation, Mr. Takanobu Shinoda – Deputy Chief Representative of the JICA Vietnam Office stated that the meeting was an essential event in the implementation process of the SATREPS Project “Establishing Sustainable Drinking Water Supply System Resilient to the Contamination of Drinking Water Sources”. At this meeting, the parties will actively report on the project implementation progress in order to effectively discuss the existing issues and challenges, thus ensuring practical outcomes after five years and achieving the project's goal of addressing contamination challenges toward safe and sustainable water supply.

Following the reports presented by the project members, on behalf of the Vietnamese SATREPS Project Management Board, Prof. Tran Thi Viet Nga stated that the project team will take into consideration the comments and agreements reached during the meeting and make the necessary adjustments to ensure the effective implementation of the project in the following year.
